Effect produced on the eye and its associated nerves by light waves of different wavelength or frequency is named color. Light transmitted from an object to the eye stimulates the different color cones of the retina, thus making possible perception of various colors in the objects.

Color Wheel

In it you can see the relationships between the principal colors and its mixes: the three primary colors are yellow, blue and red, and from the mix of them are possible to get green, orange and purple, which are known as secondary. Tertiary colors come from mixing secondary colors with primary once more. Besides, the Color Wheel shows the complementary colors across from each other in the Wheel.

Complementary colors

Are pairs of colors that are of “opposite” hue in some color model. The exact hue “complementary” to a given hue depends on the model in question, and perceptually, additive, and subtractive color models, for example, have differing complements for any given color.
